Great Bear Lake Trout are king in the 4th largest lake in North America. The remote arctic lake is home to very few species of fish and one fish in particular have adapted to thrive in a variety of ecological niches, the lake trout. Unique to Great Bear Lake, there are several different morphs of lake trout in the lake that inhabit several different types of environments with varying food habits. The king of the lake, nicknamed “Blues” and “Greens”, grow to the largest sizes known anywhere in the world. These voracious predators will eat anything that can fit in their mouth. And for a 50lb+ fish, that could be other lake trout up to 20lbs! These fish are an impressive sight. Anglers are often left with shakey knees, sore arms, a thorough slime coat, and a picture to remember their short time spent with a giant.
